Template Kit
Each Template Kit from Pegasus Aeromarine includes 5 yards of Mylar laminate sailcloth with Dacron yarn reinforcement plus adhesive backed hook and loop to allow for repeated removals.
Since each tracing must be accurate, it is CRITICAL that each template be firmly affixed when tracing the part. The templates MUST NOT SLIP DURING TRACING! For this reason, we include adhesive backed hook and loop to allow for two handed tracing with the template being held immobile. Fastening each template with hook and loop allows for two handed tracing of the pattern increasing the accuracy and decreasing the likelihood of errors being introduced into the parts.
Before you make acoustic insulation blankets for your airplane, you will need to make very accurate measurements or make templates.
Having made many templates, I found one material that has no equal. It comes from the world of high performance sailing, i.e. Mylar laminate sailcloth with Dacron yarn reinforcement.
Mylar laminate sailcloth with Dacron yarn reinforcement is transparent yet very tough since it is reinforced with heavy duty Dacron scrim using about 6 yarns per inch. The scrim makes the sailcloth almost indestructible (since in sails, it must withstand tons of force with little distortion plus beating against the mast and rigging) but the thin gauge Mylar makes it considerably more flexible than drafting Mylar, which is often frosted thus a problem in some applications. The toughness of the material allows for the use of hook and loop when making templates that must be placed and removed repeatedly and the sailcloth doesn’t tear past the yarns when removing the template from tight spots.
Paper templates are certainly adequate for many simple applications but large templates or ones that must be forced into tight corners such as the sides and consoles are much more easily done using our measuring kit.
